PET Recycling Targets
Tonnage and Targets to 2010
Working towards the Department of Environmental Affairs provisional target of 70% beverage and 43% total PET recycled by 2022, PETCO has drafted a five-year plan outlining its collection targets and key performance indicators and the criteria for consideration of the PET recycling subsidy.
PETCO has set itself the ambitious target of increasing the volume of post consumer PET collected to 34 580 tons by 2010 or 38% of all beverage PET resin converted.
It is expected that some displacement of virgin tonnage will occur in 2010 due to advances in light weighting of bottles (up to 10%), supporting the reduction of material ideal, as well as the input of rPET. |
