About Partnerships, Responsibility and Environmental Integrity

PETCO aims to minimize the environmental impact of post-consumer PET on the South African landscape by :
  1. Achieving sustainable growth in Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) plastic recycling;

  2. Supporting existing and encouraging new PET collection and recycling networks;

  3. Promoting consumer education and awareness programmes.

PETCO’s 10 key areas of focus :

  1. Collect the voluntary recycling levies from all PET converters, bottlers and importers of PET into South Africa, and administer such funds, as well as voluntary grants paid by brand owners and PET resin producers, in pursuit of its objectives

  2. Ensure participation in its activities by all entities in the PET value chain

  3. Pursue its objectives in a manner that demonstrates a commitment to sustainable development and to government's policies of waste management, minimization and recycling

  4. Work towards the target of zero waste to landfill in 2022 as stipulated in the government's Polokwane Declaration; meet regulatory requirements in respect of PET recycling targets

  5. Develop, measure and attain company specific key performance indicators to monitor accomplishments and to ensure accountability to stakeholders

  6. Facilitate and ensure that collection points/drop-off centres are strategically located in all major urban areas

  7. Promote recycling efficiency in the production, design, conversion, collection and recycling of PET

  8. Initiate and participate in environmental education awareness campaigns

  9. Become the authoritative voice that champions post-consumer PET recycling

  10. Ensure best practice in recycling by engaging with research activities to develop alternative production input materials based on renewable resources for a sustainable and viable PET industry of tomorrow
